Lectures on Architecture and Painting
John Ruskin (1819 – 1900)

There’s nothing more elegant than an antique print of an architectural masterpiece. I have a wide selection of architectural prints, including copper and steel engravings. Are you looking for a print of a particular building? If I don’t have it in stock, I’ll have something similar, or I can always look out for it.

Architecture is the Art and Science of Designing and Constructing Buildings and other Physical Structures. Texts on Architecture have been written since Ancient time. Ancient cultures such as in Egypt and Mesopotamia reflected the Architectural need to represent the power of the Ruler. In Classical Civilisations such as Greek and Roman, architecture evolved from civil ideals. In the Middle Ages the major architectural undertakings were the building of Abbeys and Cathedrals. The Architect being the Master Mason. Architecture and Engineering began to separate with the rise of new materials and technology. An example is the Edystone Lightouse 1784, which was constructed by John Smeaton, Civil Engineer. Architects were employed to plan and design houses with aesthetic consideration. Asian and Islamic Architecture developed features to suit the religion and social need of Society.
