Iceland according to the Survey by Bjorn Gunnlaugsson drawn by Augustus Petermann engraved by George H.Swanston.
Bjorn Gunnlaugsson spent 12 years surveying. He received the Order of the Dannebrog in 1846 and the French Légion d’honneur in 1859 for his work.
The steel engraved, hand coloured map, has a list of Mountains and their elevations, glaciers, snowfields (jokuls) and hot mineral Springs.
Mount Hecla is a stratovolcano in the south of Iceland. It is the most active one of 30 volcanic systems .
This very interesting map, published by A.Fullerton c.1860, is from “The Royal illustrated Atlas of Modern Geography”.

Size 26 x 16.5 cm. Condition Good.
