South-wall Light-house with Howth hill in the distance.
It was first built in about 1667 by Sir Robert Reading, as the area was the scene of a number of shipwrecks.
This engraving shows fishermen tending their nets. There are sailing ships and a paddle steamer in the distance.This is an illustration by W.H.Bartlett taken on the spot, and engraved byJ.C.Bentley,from " Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland"
