Antique Map, Sluys, 1587

Antique Map of Sluys and the surrounding area, showing the Battle and Siege of Sluys, by the Duke of Parma. The Dutch surrended, having been abandoned by the English, under Robert Dudley, the Absolute Governor. This in spite of the Treaty of Nonsuch signed in 1585 by Elizabeth l and the Dutch rebels fighting against Spanish Rule. This led to the revolt of the Low Countries against the rule of Phillip ll of Spain and the  80 year war 1566-1648.This eventually led to the planned invasion of England by the Spanish Armada.
