This engravings is from “Tableau Encyclopedique et methodique des trois regnes de la nature” published by Charles Joseph Panckoucke c.1790.
The Encyclopedia was printed during the time of the French Revolution and was written by the most knowledgeable French writers and scholars of the time.
This section was edited by Jean-Guillaume Bruguiere and Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. The Encyclopedia was extremely popular, and was copied a great many number of times.
