Mungo Park, a Scottish explorer was the first known Westerner to have travelled to the central portion of the River Niger.
Copper plate engraving, with detailed observations, showing the route he took in 1795, and in 1803 from which he did not return. The map shows the surrounding country-side, and also the place where Mungo Park was killed.
