 Showing Tubularia Magnifica in its young state, full grown, expending and retracting its tentacles. If the tentacles are touched, or they are in danger, they withdraw into the tube as quick as a flash.
The hand coloured, copperplate engraving shows the tubularia in rocks in the water. This is from The Cyclopedia, or Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature,” edited by Rev.Abraham Rees.
