Full title “Humbolt’s Distribution of Plants in Equinoctial America, according to elevation above the level of the sea” is a beautiful pictorial representation showing Chimborazo in Ecuador with a cross section of the plants surveyed in 1802. Engraved by George Aikman and published by A.& C. Black, 1854.
Alexander von Humbolt (1769-1859) was a Prussian Geographer whose work on Botanical Geography laid the foundation of Bio-geography. He was admired by Darwin, and was friends with Goethe and Schiller.
